"Halal" is an Arabic word which means lawful, permitted or acceptable.
The word can refer to food (food products, meat products, food ingredients, beverages & food contact materials), things (cosmetics & personal care product), manners, actions by God for mankind and enjoined upon the believers of Islam (Muslims). The opposite of Halal is "Haram" which means unlawful, prohibited or unacceptable. That of which is Halal and which is Haram is decided according to the Holy Q'uran and the Glorious Shahriah (Islamic Law).
